Why Bassoon Quality Matters
Bassoons are complex instruments and, unfortunately, they are not inexpensive. In recent years, a growing number of very low-cost bassoons from unfamiliar brands have appeared online. While the price can be tempting, we recommend considerable caution.
Problems with keywork, intonation, response and reliability can make learning unnecessarily difficult, while servicing and replacement parts may also be difficult to obtain.
If you are considering a significantly cheaper bassoon, we strongly recommend that you do not purchase it without first having the instrument or model approved by an experienced bassoon teacher or professional bassoonist.
