Jupiter Prodigy Waveline Flute
The Jupiter JFL700WD Prodigy Waveline Flute is designed specifically for very young and smaller beginner flute players. Its combination of Jupiter’s patented Waveline headjoint, assisted fingering keys and lightweight one-piece body helps address both the reach and hand-size difficulties that young children can experience on a standard flute.
Designed for Smaller Hands
One of the most important differences with the Prodigy is its assisted fingering key cups. These reduce the normal finger spread, helping smaller hands reach the keys more comfortably and encouraging a better hand position.
The flute also has a one-piece body extending to low D rather than the conventional low C. This reduces the overall weight and length of the instrument, improving balance and helping reduce fatigue for a young beginner.
The Waveline Playing Position
The patented Waveline headjoint reduces the distance between the lip plate and the keys while keeping the headjoint and keywork aligned.
This is an important difference from a traditional curved-head flute. Both shorten the reach required and both are played to the right, but a conventional curved headjoint positions the flute body further away from the player.
The Waveline design allows the flute to remain in a similar plane to a standard full-size flute, while bringing the keys within easier reach. This helps the young player become accustomed to a playing position that more closely resembles the position they will eventually use on a standard flute.
Made Specifically for Young Beginners
The Prodigy is not simply a standard student flute fitted with a different headjoint. Its features work together to make the instrument more manageable for a smaller child.
It features a silver-plated nickel-silver body and keywork, closed-hole keys, offset G and a specially shaped C# key. Jupiter also specifies stainless-steel springs and double-skin pads.
Which Smaller Flute Is Right for Your Child?
Children of the same age can have very different reach, hand size and posture, so we don’t recommend choosing a smaller flute simply according to age.
