This six movement piece – The Balloon Tree was written over New Year 2006-7 during a holiday on the east coast of Yorkshire. The movements are mostly inspired by elements of the surrounding area, from a nearby farm shop to the locally brewed ale! The last movement, in which the middle section pays tribute to Graham Fitkin’s The Cone Gatherers, is dedicated to the loving memory of Dr. Adrian Holden. – Charlotte Bradburn
