In the year 1700, on the Island of Mauritius, the Last Dodo danced The Last Waltz. Valse Triste is a musical tribute in B minor to the now extinct Dodo; a sweet, reflective and musically balanced waltz – tuneful and interesting for all players. The cello sings a soulful, sustained line in the main. The lyrical first violin part may be played in first position, though it lends itself well to 3rd position in places for more advanced players. Terrific training in the strokes and rhythmic elements of a waltz!
