Jupiter JAS1100 Twilight Smoke Alto Saxophone

The Jupiter JAS1100 Twilight Smoke Alto Saxophone combines a distinctive contemporary finish with the refined playing characteristics of Jupiter’s Performance Series. Designed for the committed advancing player through to the working musician, it offers a strong combination of tonal warmth, responsive keywork and adjustability.

The Sona-Pure Difference

At the heart of the JAS1100 is Jupiter’s Sona-Pure neck. A specialised manufacturing and annealing process is used to give the instrument a warm, resonant tonal character with clarity and focus.

The Twilight Smoke grey-lacquered brass body, neck and keywork give this version a very different appearance from a conventional gold-lacquer saxophone, while retaining the acoustic design of the JAS1100 series.

Keywork That Adjusts to the Player

One of the most interesting aspects of the JAS1100 is its emphasis on ergonomics. Jupiter developed the key layout with input from musicians, refining key angles and lever positions to reduce unnecessary hand tension.

The instrument features adjustable palm keys, an adjustable metal thumb rest, high F# key, C#–B♭ tilting table, adjustable G# and B mechanisms and metal-resonator pads. This gives the player considerable scope to achieve a comfortable and efficient setup.

More Than a Striking Finish

The Twilight Smoke finish certainly makes this saxophone stand out, but the real reason to consider the JAS1100 is how it plays. For a musician moving beyond a student saxophone, its combination of resonance, projection, comfortable keywork and tonal flexibility makes it well worth comparing with other instruments at this level.

At Tempest Music, we recommend playing the JAS1100 Twilight Smoke alongside other alto saxophones within your budget. Listen to the differences in tone and projection, but also notice the resistance and how naturally the keywork sits under your hands.
